Storing

Store your jewellery in a box, pouch or bag away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Wrapping your pieces in acid free tissue will keep them from tangling.  Make sure necklaces and chains are fastened at the clasp to avoid knots. Keep butterflies on earring posts and, where possible, store each earring separately to prevent scratching.

All our jewellery comes wrapped in acid free tissue and a beautiful jewellery pouch for easy storage.

Wearing

Gold vermeil and silver jewellery will naturally tarnish over time.  It's a common chemical reaction that occurs when jewellery comes into contact with skin, water or substances like body lotion, perfume or chlorine in a swimming pool.

We recommend removing  jewellery when exercising or bathing.  When applying lotions or perfumes, ensure they are applied and your skin dry before you put your jewellery on.

Cleaning

We recommend cleaning your vermeil jewellery to help maintain shine, reduce any surface residue picked up during wear, and to keep tarnish at bay.

In a bowl, mix mild soap or washing up liquid and warm water. Then use your fingers or a lint free soft cloth  to gently rub the piece (brushes or washing up sponges are a no-go as they will scratch the surface of the jewellery).  Then simply dry and buff with a soft or microfibre cloth. You can also use a jewellery polishing cloth to help restore the shine.

what is vermeil?

Both gold vermeil and gold plate refer to the process of coating a metal with gold. For vermeil, the base metal must be solid sterling silver with a thick layer of gold.  The silver item is plated with micro layers of gold, or microns for short, in order to build up a thick even coating over the silver.  The technique results in a luxurious and durable piece.

Our beautiful Signature Collection is made from 100% recycled, solid sterling silver with 2.5 microns of 18ct Fairmined gold.

If a piece is gold plated, the base metal can be any metal (such as copper or brass), and the plating may be thinner.  Our Considered Collaboration with Ammo is made from recycled brass plated with 2.5 microns of 18ct Fairmined gold or Fairmined Silver.

By choosing Fairmined metals, you can rest assured that not only are you wearing a little bit of luxury, but also mindfully protecting the earth's resources.
