Our Story: Ethical Gold & Silver

Updated: Nov 7, 2023

We want you to be able to wear Considered Jewellery with pride, as an expression of your values and a commitment to having a positive impact in the world.

We only make jewellery if we know where the materials came from and that they were responsibly produced. We’d love to share the story of our ethical gold and silver with you.

Choosing our gold and silver
Fairmined Gold bracelets

Our first Signature Collection is made from reclaimed sterling silver, plated in Fairmined certified 18 carat gold vermeil. This special combination helps us to achieve our business’ social and environmental goals.

Why reclaimed silver?

All the sterling silver used to make our Signature pieces has been previously used for something else, before being melted down in a refinery to make the silver grain we use in the jewellery making process. We chose certified recycled silver as it gives us greater visibility of the metal's origin. Recycled metal also has a lower carbon footprint than newly mined metal from large mine sites. You can find out more about it here.

Why Fairmined certified gold?

The Fairmined gold in our vermeil pieces, supports artisanal miners from a small mine in Columbia. A bit like when you buy Fairtrade coffee or bananas, Fairmined certification ensures that the miners were paid a fair price for their metal plus an additional payment to invest in their community.

Fairmined Gold Miners

We have only bought a very small amount of metal from these mines so far. But we’ll scale up in the future as we believe it’s important to support disadvantaged communities who rely on mining for their survival. Learn more about the Fairmined producers here.

We’re dedicated to creating a radically transparent jewellery brand, which you can buy with confidence. Feel free to drop us a line with any questions, we’d love to hear from you.
